What this guide covers
This guide walks you through adding a new service to your pricebook.
Services are labor-based line items that represent the work your company
performs, such as "Drain Cleaning" or "Electrical Inspection."
Before you begin
- You need Admin or Owner permissions to add pricebook items.
- Decide on a clear, customer-facing name for the service.
- Know the default price and unit of measure you want to use.
Step 1: Open the Services tab
- Navigate to
/pricebook from the left sidebar.
- Click the Services tab if it is not already selected.
Step 2: Create the service
- Click Add Service in the top-right corner.
- Fill in the required fields:
- Service Name: a clear name (e.g., "HVAC Tune-Up").
- Description: what the service includes. This appears on
quotes and invoices.
- Default Price: the base price for this service.
- Unit: how the service is measured: "each," "hour," or a
custom unit.
- Optionally set:
- Category: assign to an existing category for organization.
- Tax rate: override the default tax rate if needed.
- Click Save.

Naming best practices
- Be specific. "Drain Cleaning - Kitchen" is better than "Drain
Cleaning."
- Use trade prefixes. "Plumbing - " or "HVAC - " helps when
searching a large catalog.
- Keep it customer-facing. The name appears on quotes and invoices
that customers see.
Flat rate vs. hourly
- Flat rate: set a fixed price per "each." Best for services with
a defined scope.
- Hourly rate: set the unit to "hour" and enter the per-hour
rate. The total is calculated by multiplying hours by the rate on each
document.
Tip: If you offer the same service at different price points
(standard vs. emergency), create separate service entries like
"Drain Cleaning - Standard" and "Drain Cleaning - Emergency."
What happens next
The new service appears in the pricebook list immediately. When you
create a quote or invoice, you can search for it in the line-item
pricebook search.
Note: Price changes to a service do not affect existing quotes
or invoices. Only new line items use the updated price.
