What this guide covers

This guide explains how to configure and apply taxes on quotes in JobsiteOn. You will learn how to set your default tax rate, override it on individual quotes, and understand how tax calculations appear on the customer-facing proposal.

Setting your default tax rate

  1. Navigate to /settings/taxes from the left sidebar.
  2. Enter your default tax rate as a percentage (for example, 8.25%).
  3. Give the tax a label (for example, "Sales Tax" or "HST").
  4. Click Save.

This default rate is applied automatically to every new quote you create.

How tax is applied to a quote

Tax is calculated on the quote subtotal after discounts:

  1. The system sums all line item totals (after any line-item discounts).
  2. It subtracts any quote-level discount.
  3. The tax rate is applied to the resulting amount.
  4. The tax amount is added to produce the grand total.

Tip: Review the totals section of your quote to verify the tax calculation before sending. The breakdown shows subtotal, discount, tax, and total on separate lines.

Overriding the tax rate on a quote

If a specific quote requires a different tax rate:

  1. Open the quote builder.
  2. In the Totals section, click the tax rate field.
  3. Enter the custom rate for this quote.
  4. The tax amount recalculates immediately.

This override applies only to this quote and does not change your default rate.

Tax-exempt quotes

To create a quote with no tax:

  1. Open the quote builder.
  2. In the Totals section, set the tax rate to 0%.
  3. The tax line disappears from the totals and from the customer-facing proposal.

Note: If your customer provides a tax exemption certificate, add a note in the quote terms referencing the exemption for your records.

How tax appears on the proposal

On the customer-facing PDF and portal view:

  • The tax label and rate appear in the totals section.
  • The calculated tax amount is shown on its own line.
  • The grand total includes the tax.

Best practices

  • Set your default tax rate during initial workspace setup so all quotes are compliant from the start.
  • Check local tax requirements when working in different jurisdictions and override the rate as needed.
  • Include the tax rate in your quote terms for transparency.
  • Review tax settings periodically as rates may change.
