What this guide covers

This guide walks you through the process of completing and closing a job in JobsiteOn. You will learn when to mark a job as complete, what checks to perform before closing, and how completed jobs appear in your records and reports.

When to complete a job

Complete a job when all of the following are true:

  • All tasks on the job are checked off.
  • The field work is finished and the crew has left the site.
  • Any required documentation (photos, inspection notes) has been uploaded.
  • The customer has been notified of completion if applicable.

Completing a job step by step

  1. Open the job detail page at /jobs/[slug].
  2. Verify all tasks in the Tasks section are marked complete. The progress bar should read 100%.
  3. Review the Notes section for any outstanding items.
  4. Click the Status dropdown in the header.
  5. Select Completed.
  6. The status badge updates immediately and the change is recorded in the activity feed.

What happens when you complete a job

  • The job moves to the Completed filter in the jobs list.
  • The completion date and time are recorded in the activity log.
  • Assigned team members receive a notification that the job is closed.
  • The job is removed from the dispatch board and active schedule views.
  • The job remains accessible for viewing, reporting, and invoicing.

Tip: Complete jobs promptly after the work is finished. This keeps your active job count accurate and helps your team focus on current work.

Completing a job from the jobs list

You can also complete a job without opening the detail page:

  1. Navigate to /jobs.
  2. Find the job in the list.
  3. Click the status badge on the row.
  4. Select Completed from the dropdown.

Note: Completing a job does not automatically create an invoice. If you need to bill the customer, create an invoice separately from the job detail page.

Post-completion checklist

After completing a job, consider the following:

  • Create an invoice if the work is billable. See Create an Invoice from a Job.
  • Send a completion notification to the customer if your workflow includes customer updates.
  • Review job costs if you use job costing to track profitability. See Job Costing Basics.

Best practices

  • Verify task completion before changing the status to avoid closing incomplete work.
  • Add a final note summarizing the outcome if the job involved complex or unusual work.
  • Batch-complete multiple finished jobs at the end of each day to keep your job board current.
  • Use the Completed filter to review recently finished work during weekly team meetings.
