What this guide covers

This guide explains how to set up pricing tiers for pricebook items. Tiers let you offer different rates based on quantity, customer type, or other criteria without maintaining separate pricebook entries.

What is a pricing tier

A pricing tier defines an alternative price for a pricebook item that applies when certain conditions are met. Examples:

  • Volume pricing -- lower per-unit price when quantity exceeds a threshold.
  • Membership pricing -- discounted rate for customers on a service agreement.
  • Emergency pricing -- higher rate for after-hours or urgent work.

Creating a pricing tier

  1. Navigate to /pricebook.
  2. Click the item you want to add tiers to.
  3. Click the Pricing tab on the item detail page.
  4. Click Add Tier.
  5. Configure the tier:
    • Tier name -- a descriptive label (e.g., "Bulk 10+").
    • Condition -- the rule that triggers this tier.
    • Price -- the tier-specific price.
  6. Click Save.

Tier conditions

Available conditions include:

  • Quantity range -- applies when the line item quantity falls within a specific range (e.g., 10-49 units).
  • Flat override -- a fixed alternative price regardless of quantity.

How tiers apply on documents

When adding a line item to a quote or invoice:

  1. Select the pricebook item.
  2. Enter the quantity.
  3. If the quantity matches a tier condition, the price auto-adjusts.
  4. You can still override the price manually.

Tip: Use volume tiers for parts you sell in bulk. Customers appreciate transparent volume discounts and it encourages larger orders.

Editing and removing tiers

  1. Open the item detail page.
  2. Click the Pricing tab.
  3. Click Edit on any tier to change conditions or price.
  4. Click Delete to remove a tier.

Note: Removing a tier does not affect existing quotes or invoices. Tier changes only apply to new line items.
