Share Your Location with Your Team

How field team members control live location sharing — choosing when to share, granting Always and Precise access, and setting Quiet hours — plus how managers request a teammate to share.

What this guide covers

This guide explains live location sharing in the JobsiteOn mobile app — how a team member chooses when their location is shared, grants the right level of device access, and pauses sharing during set hours. It also covers how a manager asks a teammate to start sharing.

Live location sharing is different from a member's home base address (used for dispatch proximity). Home base is a fixed address set on the member's profile; live location is the real-time position a member chooses to share from their phone. To set a home base instead, see Manage Team Member Locations.

Note: Live location sharing is part of the Dispatch product and is off by default. Each member controls their own sharing — it is never turned on for them without their consent.

Open the Share Location page

In the JobsiteOn mobile app:

  1. Tap your avatar in the top-right of Home to open the You sheet.
  2. Under Availability, tap Share Location.

This opens the Share Location page, where everything below is controlled.

Turn sharing on and choose when to share

Turn on Share my location, then pick one schedule for when your location is shared:

You can change the schedule at any time, and turning sharing off stops it immediately.

Allow Always and Precise location

For sharing to work reliably, iOS needs Always access and Precise location turned on for JobsiteOn. The Share Location page shows your current access and the exact step to fix it:

Tip: "While clocked in" works with "While Using the App" access, but "Always" and "Around scheduled jobs" need Always access to share when the app is in the background.

Set Quiet hours

Quiet hours pause location sharing during times you choose — even when a schedule above is active. This is ideal for after hours and days off.

  1. On the Share Location page, under Quiet hours, tap Add quiet hours.
  2. Choose the days the block repeats.
  3. Set a start and end time. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the block continues into the next morning (for example, 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM).
  4. Save. Add as many blocks as you need; tap one to edit or remove it.

While a quiet-hours block is active, your location is not shared and your profile shows that sharing is paused.

For managers: request a teammate to share

Owners, admins, and managers can ask a team member to share their location.

From the web app:

  1. Navigate to /team and open the member's profile.
  2. Open the More menu and choose Request location sharing.
  3. Pick a suggested schedule and add an optional note, then send.

From the mobile app: open a team member, tap Location, then choose a suggested schedule and send.

The teammate receives a message in team chat and a push notification with the request. They can accept — which turns on sharing with the agreed schedule and prompts them for location access — or decline. You are notified of their response either way. Requests are always the member's choice to accept.

Note: A request never turns on sharing by itself. The team member must accept it, and they can change or turn off sharing afterward at any time.

Who can see your location

Only people allowed to see it can — workspace admins and dispatch by default. Your location is scoped to your organization and is never shared across companies. When sharing is off, paused by quiet hours, or your chosen schedule is not currently active, your live location is not shared.
